This vintage rug was handwoven over 60 to 80 years ago by the artisans of Marmoucha.
Marmoucha is a village located in the North of Morocco and sits just south of Fez. Marmoucha is in the region where the infamous Beni Ourain tribe once lived.
Marmoucha is both the name of the village as well as rug style. This area produces some of the strongest wool of all of Morocco which allows their rugs to be extra plush and soft. This piece was woven with 100% locally sourced, undyed wool.
Due to the age of the piece the pile has been worn down to a low pile but it still feels just as cozy, plush and soft as it looks.
